Enkianthus perrulatus 'Compacta' - Dwarf Enkianthus
$35.00Out of stock
Dwarf enkianthus is perhaps one of the most elusive of all garden shrubs. These fascinating little specimens display small, white, urn-shaped flowers and brilliant, scarlet-red fall color. The original plant was raised in Harold Epstein’s garden where it managed less than an inch of annual growth for many years. This remarkable, 3’ wide, 80+ year old specimen was recently sold at auction and now resides in a happy home in western Connecticut. Over the years we have acquired a few specimens for our display gardens. Our largest is now 15 years old and measures less than 14” in width and 8” in height. Thankfully we’ve been able to root a few cuttings and now have a very limited number of plants available for sale. Learn More -
Enkianthus perulatus - White Enkianthus
$25.00Out of stock
A striking and refined Asian enkianthus that is unjustly rare in American gardens. The small, deciduous shrubs offer an elegant, tiered branch structure that adds a bit of natural sculpture to the garden. In May, pure white, pendent urn shaped flowers accentuate the fresh green leaves and horizontal branching pattern. Autumn brings long lived, shimmering scarlet-red fall color that is the rival of any hardy shrub. Plants are difficult to propagate and slow to establish yet perform admirably for years on end if given a rich, acidic soil with even moisture and good drainage. Learn More
