Ginkgo

A striking and refined Asian enkianthus that is unjustly rare in American gardens. The small, deciduous shrubs offer an elegant, tiered branch structure that adds a bit of natural sculpture to the garden. In May, pure white, pendent urn shaped flowers accentuate the fresh green leaves and horizontal branching pattern. Another highly desirable male cultivar of ginkgo that originated at the Saratoga Research Institute. 'Saratoga' forms a squat, cone-shaped habit of irregular branches that are cloaked with tightly packed leaves. Foliage is considerably longer than typical and marked with a prominent split that deeply divides each leaf. The overall effect is a lacy, fine-textured appearance. A fine dwarf ginkgo introduction sporting a robust framework of brawny stems and thick, sturdy side branches that align themselves in a pyramidal silhouette.
