Caryopteris x clandonensis ‘Summer Sorbet’ PP15935

Blue mist shrubs are a fantastic group of Asian plants long valued for their airy clusters of blue flowers that burst forth from the leaf axils in late summer. A compact growth form, excellent resistance to deer browse and tolerance to droughty soils add to their appeal and versatility.
‘Summer Sorbet’ takes it a step beyond the status quo by adding bold, golden-yellow edged leaves to the mix. The color is fantastic, glowing throughout the growing season and providing an ideal backdrop for the prolific blue flowers that begin to appear in August. This beauty was found as a chance sport on a plant of Caryopteris x clandonensis ‘Kew Blue’ by the keen eyes of Peter van Delft of West End Nurseries, Devon, England.
Like the species ‘Summer Sorbet’ grows best in average garden soil in a full sun exposure. Plants are completely hardy through USDA Zone 6. In Zone 5 they often behave like perennials, dying back during the winter months. Either way, best growth occurs when plants are cut back each spring to stimulate prolific new growth. 3’ x 3’
