Welcome to Our Spring 2012 Mail Order Season!
Even though the weather is still frigid outside we hope our on-line catalog will warm your soul and feed your appetite until spring. As promised we've worked hard to add many new and exciting treasures to the website and are confident you'll find a few "must have" plants to order. In response to your suggestions, we've continued to expand the selection of larger, 2 gallon plants we offer through on-line shopping and are confident that you'll find these plants easy to care for and ready for a permanent home in the landscape. Throughout the winter we plan to continue adding new content to the store including additional high quality images to showcase the fine plants we grow. New items will also become available from time to time so please stop by frequently! As usual, we hope that these improvements will make your shopping experience more exciting and fulfilling.
Among the most exciting plants available this season include Platanus x acerifolia 'Suttneri', an unjustly rare form of sycamore featuring leaves that are heavily streaked and splashed with white variegation! Ilex pedunculosa 'Mountain Mist' is also irresistible. This nearly unobtainable long stalk holly showcases heavily variegated evergreen leaves that blend cream and hints of candy pink with a mosaic of green. Not to be left out is Fagus sylvatica 'Mercedes'. This extremely slow growing European beech sports fantastic incised, rich green leaves and reaches only 4' tall at maturity.
Conifers continue to pique our interests and this year's selection is as large as ever! The distinctive Pinus strobus 'Diggy' makes a welcome addition to the rock garden with its rich green tufted needles and columnar framework. Pinus parviflora 'Tani Mano Uki' makes a return visit and offers about as much color as you can get from the world of conifers. This fine shrubby pine has unique, pink-blushed buds that open to reveal white needles which slowly age to a handsome, bluish-green. Also at the top of the list is Thuja occidentalis 'Konfetti', a smaller form of eastern arborvitae valued for its bright green foliage that is irregularly splashed with a generous amount of cream variegation.
Our perennial selection is changing and growing every year. Among the most exciting for 2012 is Boehmeria nipononivea 'Nichirin', a stunning Japanese woodland perennial that features fuzzy foliage emerging with irregular green centers and bold creamy-white margins. Not to be left out is Eucomis x 'Rhode Island Red', a flamboyant hybrid pineapple lily from Rhode Island plantsman Ed Bowen. Plants draw much attention with their long wand-like clusters of pink flowers that emerge above dramatic, 30-36", maroon-green leaves. For woodland flare we're happy to offer Polygonatum odoratum 'Red Legs', a highly desirable Solomon's seal with blue-green foliage highlighted by stunning maroon-red stems. With all these choice plants available we're sure you'll find a few to take home.
As a final thought, many thanks to those who have taken time to comment on our website. We value your thoughts, suggestions and critiques and hope you'll keep them coming. They're the most important tool we use to figure out how to make our catalog and shopping system more enjoyable for all.
Happy and healthy gardening.
