A Japanese woodland plant, shrub-like in stature, features fuzzy green, ovate-toothed foliage. The 3-4’ tall, fibrous stems, were utilized in the production of hemp. Inconspicuous flowers appear in late August-September. Boehmeria prefers a light loamy soil and good drainage in a partly sunny garden.
