A moderate-sized cedar native to western North America where it occurs in mixed conifer forests in regions that experience massive amounts of annual snow fall. Develops into a conical specimen tree with an upright central leader and horizontal to slightly drooping secondary and tertiary branches. The drooping branches have evolved to allow snow to shed more easily, limiting breakage from excess snow loading.
