A slow growing, refined red-vein enkianthus that was selected in Japan and named 'Akatsuki' which translates to "dawn". Plants develop a narrow framework and are decorated with masses of attractive, bell-shaped red flowers in spring. Leaves are smaller than most other cultivars of enkianthus yet turn familiar shades of orange and scarlet in autumn. Our 10 year old landscape specimen has grown wonderfully in a full sun exposure in acid soils and has reached 5' in height with a 2' spread.
