The tea viburnum is a wonderful, underrated shrub most appealing for its incredible fall fruit display that rivals the best this classy genus has to offer. Plants develop an upright-narrow framework of arching stems that support 3-5” clean-green, lance-shaped leaves throughout the growing season. Airy circular clusters of creamy-white flowers accent plants in spring. By autumn the show begins with ample crops of bright red fruit that parade past leaf drop right into winter. The fruit production is often so prolific that the graceful arching symmetry is enhanced from the added weight. Plants have no significant pest issues and will show best performance in a diversity of garden soils provided that drainage is assured. As is true with many viburnum species, best fruit set is facilitated with cross-pollination from other individuals of the same species.
